Extended School Year

Students generally remain at MacNeal School for a minimum of two years, which includes both the regular school year and summer school. Students accepted at MacNeal School are therefore made eligible for Extended School Year. The extended school year at MacNeal School consists of full 6.5 hour school days, with a modified curriculum focusing on Reading, Math, and Social Sciences for junior and high school students. Community integration fills out the summer curriculum in the form of field trips. There are vacation breaks throughout the school year and at the beginning and end of the summer school session. Students are generally not out of programming for more than two weeks at a time, minimizing the loss of skills attained. MacNeal School believes year round programming is critical to maintain progress and ensure the retention of skills.
