Disabilities Served

MacNeal School is approved to serve severely emotionally disturbed children, who may or may not have behavioral issues. However there needs to be determination that the emotional disorder is the core of the disturbance. The school does not serve conduct disordered youth nor youth that have a sole diagnosis of oppositional defiant disorder. The program design and interventions utilized are not matched to these students' needs. The school also serves students with attention deficit disorders and students with other health impairments as defined by the Illinois State Board of Education. Syndrome. Additionally MacNeal School serves students with specific learning disabilities providing the intellectual capacity is within the range between low average and superior functioning. The capacity for verbal communication is a critical factor in appropriateness for placement.
